GOODNEWS:In a game so cold that head coach Andy Reid’s moustache freezes, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Miami Dolphins…
CNN —
At Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Miami Dolphins 26-7 in frigid weather that caused Andy Reid, the head coach of the Chiefs, to freeze his moustache.
According to the Peacock broadcast, the game was the fourth coldest in National Football League history at kickoff, with a temperature of -4 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind chill of -20 degrees.
Social media users have since been sharing photos of Reid with icicles growing out of his facial hair.
Despite the harsh weather, the Kansas City offence got off to a fast start, moving down the field on the first drive and ending it with a quarterback pass of 11 yards to wide receiver Rashee Rice for a score. Rice would go on to gain 130 yards and eight catches before the end of the game.
The Chiefs shut down the Dolphins offence entirely and never looked back.

The game was effectively over in the fourth quarter when Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker went 4 for 4 on field goals and running back Isiah Pacheco scored a three-yard rushing touchdown.
Mahomes gained 262 yards and a score at the game’s conclusion.
Supporting her boyfriend Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift braved the chilly weather by showing up in a #87 Kelce jacket. Kelce had seven catches for 71 yards by the end of the game.
The announcer said that at the conclusion of the game, it felt like -28 degrees while the temperature was just -9 degrees.
Huddling near pitch-side heaters, players tried to avoid the cold by making the most of heated benches.
When questioned about the weather on the Peacock broadcast after the game, Mahomes played it down, responding, “It is what it is.”
Mahomes said, “We’re at Arrowhead in Kansas City.” We’re going to engage in some similar gaming. Our approach was to play football here and see what would happen.

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the December 1967 “Ice Bowl” in Wisconsin, despite the fact that Saturday’s weather were only slightly warmer than the NFL’s record -13 air temperature and -48 wind chill.
The Houston Texans beat the Cleveland Browns 45-14 earlier on Saturday.
With 274 yards and three touchdowns via the air, rookie quarterback CJ Stroud of the Texans had a spectacular day. In a playoff game, Stroud’s three touchdown passes matched a rookie record. In addition, the 23-year-old former second-overall selection made NFL history as the youngest quarterback to win a playoff game.
The Green Bay Packers will meet the Dallas Cowboys in Texas on Sunday as the NFL playoffs continue. When the Los Angeles Rams take on the Detroit Lions, Matthew Stafford will also make his triumphant return to the city where he began his NFL career.

Highlights of Chiefs vs. Dolphins: How Kansas City defeated Miami to win a chilly wild-card game
About halfway through the fourth quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Miami Dolphins AFC wild-card game, half of the Arrowhead Stadium crowd began making their way to the parking lot.
This was not a retreat from hardship. Next week, the Chiefs will play in the divisional round since they have a three-possession lead. Who was to blame except the fans? The temperature was -8°F with a -28 wind chill, which was somewhat colder than the -4°F (-27 wind chill) during kickoff. They were departing happy that they had weathered enough inclement weather. For three quarters, icicles had coated Coach Andy Reid’s moustache.
The Chiefs defeated the Dolphins 26-7 on Saturday, leading from start to finish. The Chiefs playoff record-tying four field goals from kicker Harrison Butker came from a dominant defence and a better than adequate offence.
“Guys came with that attitude, that mentality. We knew it was going to be cold. But all we week were preaching, ‘Let’s come in with that fire,'” Mahomes said.
In less than four minutes, Kansas City’s first drive resulted in a touchdown, as rookie receiver Rashee Rice and quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected for an 11-yard touchdown. With eight receptions on 12 targets for a season-high 130 yards, Rice demonstrated why he carried the Chiefs’ receiving room in the closing moments of the game.

As the third quarter got underway, the Dolphins had only mustered six first downs. Early in the second quarter, the score was 10-7 thanks to a 53-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to Tyreek Hill, the former Chief making his Arrowhead comeback. Again, Miami failed to score. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Dolphins had 98 total yards on 32 plays, excluding Hill’s grab and run. The whole game, they gained 76 running yards. On third down, Miami was 0 for 12 yards.
Although he dropped at least two catches, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce caught seven passes for 71 yards. The Peacock cameras loved Taylor Swift, who wore a personalised “87” jacket and was the main focus of the service’s exclusive streaming of the game.
Isiah Pacheco, a rushing back for Kansas City (24 runs, 89 yards), put the game away in the fourth quarter with a touchdown from the wildcat formation. On Miami’s second drive, safety Mike Edwards intercepted Tagovailoa, who airmailed a throw over the middle. Edge rusher George Karlaftis led the defence with 1.5 sacks.
Mahomes completed 23 of 41 passes for 262 yards, not very effective. In crucial moments, he also had two scrambles for a total of 41 yards on the ground, which put the Chiefs in a goal-to-go scenario. Kansas City’s red-zone offence was one aspect of the game that worried them. The Chiefs went 0-for-2 in goal-to-go situations and only scored touchdowns on two of their six trips that entered the red zone.
The Dolphins took control of their own destiny to win the AFC East and maybe the top seed in the league less than three weeks ago when they upset the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Eve. However, they plummeted to the No. 6 seed after losing to the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens, the eventual top two seeds, in back-to-back games. Highlights from Chiefs vs. Dolphins
NFL playoff victors and losses
The NFL playoffs began with two blowouts in the wild card round. At cold Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City easily defeated Miami, while the Texans easily defeated the Browns, in large part due to a collapse by the MVP of Super Bowl 47.
The Chiefs’ next opponent is who? When are the Chiefs’ next games?
Alright, so… We’re not sure yet! The Chiefs are the AFC’s last-place seed that will play. Thus, the Chiefs will be visiting Buffalo for Patrick Mahomes’ first-ever road playoff game if the Bills defeat the Steelers on Monday. However, should the Steelers win, the Chiefs will stay at Arrowhead Stadium to host the Houston Texans, the AFC South champions. This long weekend will see the release of the divisional round schedule.
Patrick Mahomes’s broken helmet
Patrick Mahomes faced a first on Saturday, seven years into a career that has included two NFL MVPs, two Super Bowl championships, and an extensive list of accolades.
With 9:25 left in the third quarter, Mahomes scrambled right and raced forward for a 13-yard gain on a second-and-7 play. When he bowed his head, Dolphins defender DeShon Elliott confronted him. The two players collided helmet to helmet, sending a fragment of Mahomes’ crown upward.
With the broken helmet, Mahomes was allowed to play for two plays before officials forced him to get a replacement.
“I was very upset since my helmet shattered from being too heated. “It was sitting out in the cold all day long, and I put the other helmet on, and it didn’t fit at all,” Mahomes said in an interview after the Chiefs’ 26-7 victory.
Late in the Chiefs’ game against the Dolphins, Taylor Swift celebrates and sings.
As the Chiefs approached the divisional round late on Saturday night, the atmosphere in Taylor Swift’s box was electric. Swift, Donna Kelce, and Brittany Mahomes were seen celebrating in the last moments of the Chiefs’ game versus the Dolphins on the Peacock broadcast. Swift was earlier seen joining in on a crowd sing-along.
Dolphins 7, Chiefs 26: Is the game over? Chiefs’ score pushes Dolphins to the verge
With 11:06 left in the fourth quarter, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs mounted a 14-play, 72-yard touchdown drive to increase their advantage to 26-7.
Isiah Pacheco, the running back for the Chiefs, completed the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. After 21 carries, Pacheco currently has 78 running yards. The Chiefs’ red zone record now stands at 2-for-6.

Harrison Butker’s fourth field goal increases the Chiefs’ lead to 19 over the Dolphins.
It can’t be enjoyable to kick a sturdy football. But Harrison Butker, the Chiefs’ kicker, hasn’t had any problems with it.
The 21-yard chip shot that served as Butker’s fourth field goal ended the previous Super Bowl champions’ 68-yard drive, which spanned 13 plays. In the third quarter, Kansas City was up 19–7 with 7:49 remaining.
Patrick Mahomes gained 20 and 13 yards, respectively, via his connections with tight ends Travis Kelce and Noah Grey. Mahomes’ 13-yard scramble to the Miami 3-yard line was the drive’s key play. After the hit, a portion of the quarterback’s helmet broke off, but he continued to play. Kansas City is 1-for-5 in the red zone (0-for-2 in goal-to-go) after failing to convert in the goal-to-go situation.
Butker’s four field goals set a playoff record for the Chiefs. Butker has never made a shot from more than thirty-two yards.

The impact caused Patrick Mahomes’ helmet to chip, necessitating a helmet change.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes rushed 13 yards to the Dolphins’ 3-yard line with the Chiefs leading 16–7 in the third quarter, but Miami defender DeShon Elliott stopped him short of the end zone. On the play, Mahomes and Elliott ran into each other, cracking Mahomes’ helmet.

Rashee Rice leaves the Chiefs injured but comes back in the fourth
Rashee Rice, a rookie wide receiver for the Chiefs, led all players in receiving yards today with 102, setting a record with seven grabs. Additionally, he scored Kansas City’s lone touchdown in the first quarter on an 11-yard pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Rice became the lone K.C. with Elmo Wright. rookies in a playoff game who had more than 100 receiving yards. But four minutes into the third quarter, Rice hobbled off the field after tripping close to the sideline after a 10-yard catch. But when he came back in the fourth quarter, he made his seventh reception of the game, adding 28 more yards. In a playoff game, Rice’s 130 receiving yards (and counting) set a new mark for a rookie quarterback in the Chiefs. — Davis, Nate
Dolphins creating history on “Hard Knocks”
Produced in association with NFL Films, HBO’s NFL docuseries has followed the 2001 Baltimore Ravens throughout training camp for over 25 years. However, the 2023 Dolphins are the first team the programme has ever covered in the playoffs as of tonight. This season marks the third time HBO has produced an in-season episode of “Hard Knocks,” with the Dolphins playing after the 2021 Indianapolis Colts and the 2022 Arizona Cardinals. — Davis, Nate
Travis Kelce seeking historical significance
Only legendary Hall of Famer Jerry Rice had more receiving yards (1,548) and receptions (133) in NFL postseason history than Chiefs Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce. Despite missing a couple in the early half, Kelce had five receptions for 55 yards before halftime. Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski have the most postseason touchdown connections (15), with him and Patrick Mahomes having connected up for 14 of them. — Davis, Nate
Chiefs 16, Dolphins 7 at the half.
The Chiefs trailed 16–7 at the half despite costly first-half penalties and ineffective red zone offence.
In the first half, the Chiefs scored on four of their six possessions, although they were just 1 for 4 in the red zone.
In the first half, Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Chiefs, threw for 167 yards and a score. Rashee Rice, a rookie wide receiver, caught six passes for 92 yards and the lone score for Kansas City. Rice leads both teams in reception yards and receptions.
Harrison Butker, the kicker for the Chiefs, has converted all three of his field goals.
Mike Edwards, a safety for the Chiefs, gets the lone intercept of the game.
The Dolphins have struggled to score many points while playing in bitter cold. There are just six completions for 94 yards from Tua Tagovailoa. A 53-yard touchdown pass to swift wide receiver Tyreek Hill accounted for the majority of Tagovailoa’s yards.

Taylor Swift’s jacket featuring Travis Kelce
Pop sensation Taylor Swift is battling the bitter cold at Arrowhead Stadium.
Swift wore a personalised puffer jacket with the name and No. 87 of her fiancé, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, as she arrived to the team’s wild-card playoff game against the Miami Dolphins. Kristin Juszczyk, the wife of San Francisco 49ers All-Pro fullback Kyle Juszczyk, designed the red-and-yellow jacket.
On Instagram, Kristin Juszczyk said, “An honour of a lifetime!” “Thank you @taylorswift.”

Whistles that are frozen? Chiefs seem to lose points for not answering.
The Dolphins’ downs turnover was not costly due to an obvious missed call.
Patrick Mahomes hit Mecole Hardman with a long ball on third-and-3 from the Dolphins’ 48-yard line. The ball flew over Hardman’s head incomplete, and while he was following it, Dolphins defender Brandon Jones visibly grabbed the wide receiver’s jersey.
The Kansas City audience jeered at Hardman and Mahomes, who were clearly irritated by the non-call.

Chiefs 13, Dolphins 7: The Chiefs had to settle for field goal once again.
An interception by Jawaan Taylor negated a Chiefs score.
Once again, the Chiefs advanced well into Miami territory and arrived at the end zone, but Taylor’s illegal block invalidated the touchdown. The Chiefs gained a 13–7 lead after settling for a Harrison Butker field goal from 26 yards out.
Butker has made both of his field goals thus far, both of which have been from inside thirty yards.

Chiefs 10, Dolphins 7: A score from Tyreek Hill puts the Dolphins in the game.
Tyreek Hill’s lightning-fast speed served as the driving force behind Miami’s (sometimes) potent offence for the most of the season. Early in the second quarter, against his old squad, he gave the Dolphins a lead.
In the game, Hill’s first reception came on a short, well-planned play-action ball that went for nine yards. Tua Tagovailoa dropped back on the following play, and Hill beat his guy on a go route. Hill caught the ball even though it was underthrown by a little amount. He managed to go by two Chiefs defenders and reach the end zone, where he scored a 53-yard touchdown.

Chiefs 10, Dolphins 0: Tua Tagovailoa’s interception allows the Chiefs to increase their advantage.
Tua Tagovailoa intercepted a pass, and the Chiefs capitalised with a field goal.
A poor snap on third down caused the Chiefs to settle for a short field goal despite Kansas City’s 10-play, 48-yard drive that had them within Miami’s 15-yard line. With 14:51 remaining in the second quarter, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made a 28-yard field goal to give Kansas City a 10-0 lead.

Tua Tagovailoa of the Dolphins throws an early interception.
In games played in temperatures below fifty, Tua Tagovailoa had seven NFL starts. Miami lost those games 1-6, averaging 13.4 points per contest.
To avoid going to 1-7, he will need to recover from an early setback.
Under pressure from George Karlaftis, the edge rusher for Kansas City, Tagovailoa airmailed a third-and-five attempt across the middle to receiver Jaylen Waddle. With three minutes remaining in the first quarter, Chiefs safety Mike Edwards intercepted the inaccurate throw, giving the Chiefs possession at their own 42-yard line.
