Terry Rozier Would Rather Play Against the Celtics: Source

Terry Rozier, a former guard for the Boston Celtics, may be moving at the NBA Trade Deadline. The Charlotte Hornets “have all players available outside of LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Mark Williams,” according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. Fischer disclosed Rozier’s chosen trade partner should they proceed with those intentions.

The Miami Heat are Terry Rozier’s preferred destination, according to league sources, and his excellent performance has made him a more attractive trade target than ever, according to Fischer’s January 17 piece. Rozier has an average salary of $24 million year.

At 8-30, the Hornets’ prospects of qualifying for the play-in round on their own are now very slim. The Heat may be able to achieve their postseason goals if they trade Rozier to them. With Rozier, they would have a more potent offensive point guard to complement Jimmy Butler, who is younger. In a game against the Celtics, his personal knowledge of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s styles of play may be advantageous. Fischer did not say if the Heat had the same sentiments.

From 2015 until 2019, Rozier was a member of the Celtics, who then moved him to the Hornets. Rozier did a fantastic job stepping in as the Celtics point guard during the 2018 playoffs, despite the years that had passed.

Rozier averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 assists, and 5.3 assists in 19 games. Rozier also shot 34.7% from three and 40.6% from the field. During his tenure with the Hornets, Rozier has emerged as a star. According to NBA.com, he’s averaging 24 points, 6.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and a field goal percentage of 46.1% and 38.3% from three during the 2023–24 campaign.

Rozier Terry Knicks Targets Among
It is possible for the Charlotte Hornets to trade Terry Rozier, but not to the Miami Heat. It turns out that Rozier has also been connected to the New York Knicks, another rival team of the Celtics.

Brian Lewis of the New York Post mentioned Rozier as one of the guys the Knicks are watching. Malcolm Brogdon, a former Celtics guard, is also on the list.

In an article published on January 17, Winfield said, “They have been linked to several players available on the trade market, including Atlanta’s Dejounte Murray, Portland’s Malcolm Brogdon, Detroit’s Bojan Bogdanovic, and Charlotte’s Terry Rozier.”

Rozier would not be available if the Knicks acquired one of their other targets. Regardless of whether the Knicks are Rozier’s next franchise, he seems to be in high demand.

Gordon Hayward Is Probably Buying Out
Not only Terry Rozier, a current Hornet and former Celtic, might be joining a new squad. Gordon Hayward may be playing for a different club in season, according to Fischer. Fischer did note that Hwyard probably won’t be moving to a new squad.

“A rival team offering $30 million to match veteran wing Gordon Hayward’s expiring salary is not likely to happen; instead, Hayward is more likely to switch teams through a buyout.”

With an injury history and a current salary of $31.5 million, Hayward will be 34 in March. He’s still a good player, however. His averages are 14.5 points, 4.7 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 36.1% from three-point range, with a field percentage of 46.8%.

The Celtics won’t be able to sign him, however. Due to the Celtics’ position above the first apron, Boardroom Sports explains why signing Hayward this season is not feasible.

“A player released during the regular season whose salary above the mid-level exception—which stands at $12.2 million this season—cannot be signed by a team. clubs who do not move veterans before the trade deadline often search for new clubs to play for in the playoffs, therefore this will restrict the amount of tax teams during the yearly buyout season.

When the Celtics acquired Jrue Holiday, they moved over the second tax bracket.
