Seahawks Request HC Interviews With Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik.

The Seahawks want to talk with two of the most well-liked prospects in the 2024 cycle as they continue to cast a wide net in their pursuit of a Pete Carroll successor. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Seattle has asked to speak with Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as a head coach. Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik has also been given a slip, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

Carroll made remarks in public that seemed to indicate he was ready to lead the club for a fifteenth season, but Seattle promoted him to an advisory position last week. The change has resulted in demands for interviews, and general manager John Schneider is leading the coaching search. The latter will oversee all personnel concerns, as he stated in a news conference on Tuesday. During his entire time as HC, Carroll possessed the ultimate word in that respect.

All teams who need a head coach have asked Johnson to an interview, with the exception of the Patriots and Raiders. The Chargers and the emerging play-caller are said to have a shared interest, but there will be fierce competition for his services. Johnson, 37, is the primary target for the Commanders and Panthers. If Seattle wants to sign him in this cycle, they will thus need to outmanoeuvre a lot of suitors.

Similar to Johnson the previous season, Slowik has significantly raised his profile in his first year as coordinator. This summer, the former 49ers passing game coordinator moved with DeMeco Ryans from San Francisco to Houston, and he has performed well. Despite quarterback C.J. Stroud missing time because of a concussion, the Texans finished eighth in the league in passing yards this season. Comparing Slowik, 36, to many other contenders this year, he lacks experience. Nevertheless, the Falcons, Panthers, Titans, and Commanders have all asked him to an interview.

Schneider said that he plans to start virtual interviews tomorrow in order to start Seattle’s coaching search (in-person discussions with coaches who are still in the playoffs cannot take place until after the divisional round). According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Seahawks will speak with Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on Thursday. Quinn’s affiliation with the club made him an instant watch candidate, but other teams looking to fill the HC position have also shown a great deal of interest in him.

The hiring process in Seattle will be interesting to follow, especially because the club has a number of roster players from their playoff run from the previous season and continuity in the objective of adding a coach who can foster a similar culture to Carroll, as Schneider said. The club has targeted players on both sides of the ball, and the winner will have a difficult problem in replicating Carroll’s achievements.
