LATEST UPDATE: The Dallas Cowboys ended the Green Bay Packers’ historical dominance in a Wild Card playoff game.

One of the most iconic games in NFL history is the rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.

When the Packers travel to meet the Cowboys on Sunday in a Wild Card playoff game, the two clubs will rekindle their rivalry. The fact that Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is playing his old club intrigues me even more.

The Packers have been dominating this matchup lately.

With the two teams matched at 4, this will be the sixth playoff matchup between the Packers and Cowboys. In their two previous postseason matchups, the Packers prevailed 26-21 in Green Bay in 2015 and 34-31 in Dallas in 2016

The Packers are 9-1 in their last ten meetings versus the Cowboys and have won four straight games overall in the series. The Cowboys’ home stadium, AT&T Stadium, has seen only one loss in the Packers’ last four road games versus the team.

Throughout his 13 seasons as the Packers’ coach, McCarthy was 7-1 versus the Cowboys; however, with the team’s 31-28 overtime victory the previous season, McCarthy is now 0-1 against the Packers in his role as Cowboys coach.

After winning their last two games, the Cowboys (12-5) clinched the NFC East. To secure a postseason berth, the Packers (9-8) won their final three games, including a 17-9 victory over the Chicago Bears in the regular season finale.

“They’ve had a good year,” McCarthy told reporters after the Cowboys defeated the Washington Commanders to close their regular season. “The drama that I’m sure you guys will love, I will not participate in this year. It’s playoff-time. It doesn’t matter who you play.” McCarthy was referring to the Cowboys’ visit to Green Bay last year, when he returned to Green Bay for the first time since leaving the team. McCarthy said he spent too much time talking about his tenure with the Packers. “Last year, I thought it was important for me to talk about Green Bay in the beginning of the week. I did with the team. I regretted it,” McCarthy told reporters Monday. “That doesn’t even need to come into our energy

The focus of this game is our dedication. Who we play doesn’t matter, and it truly doesn’t. That’s simply not appropriate right now, McCarthy told reporters on Monday. “Last year, I provided truthful answers to the inquiries on my experiences up there. Simply said, it won’t help us win. I’m not interested in anything, however, if it doesn’t help us win a game.

It would fare better for McCarty to lead the Cowboys to victory and the divisional round of the playoffs.
