Gavin Escobar, a former tight end for the Dallas Cowboys, passed away at age 31 after what seems to have been a rock climbing accident.

Authorities stated that when rescue workers reacted to reports of injuries on Wednesday, they discovered the bodies of two rock climbers close to a mountain in southern California. The other climber is Chelsea Walsh, 33.

On Wednesday around 1:30 p.m., the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department posted on Twitter that they had received a distress call and had sent rescuers to Tahquitz Rock, which is close to Idyllwild. According to the department, when a crew made it into the isolated, steep location, they discovered both climbers dead there.

Although there had been some light rain in the region earlier in the day, authorities delayed commenting on whether the weather contributed to the fatalities.

The Cowboys selected Escobar in the second round of the 2013 draft, and he remained a member of the organisation until 2016. After having short spells with the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and Kansas City Chiefs, he concluded his football career in 2019 with the Alliance of American Football, which has since folded.

From February till now, Escobar has served as a fireman in Long Beach, California. His wife and two children survive him, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

With its sheer granite cliffs, Tahquitz Rock is a well-liked climbing location. According to the Los Angeles Times, two Los Angeles climbers perished on the rock in 2000 after falling 200 feet.
