The Canadian women’s curling championship is abandoned by Nunavut.

Nunavut has pulled out of the Canadian women’s curling tournament, according to Ottawa.

There will be 18 teams competing in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, which takes place from February 16–25 at Calgary’s WinSport Event Centre, Curling Canada announced in a statement on Monday.

A spot in the national championship will be awarded to the team that finishes fourth in the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) at the end of the provincial and territorial titles.

Teams led by Rachel Homan and Jennifer Jones have already qualified because they are ranked in the top three.

The next two teams that qualify for the national tournament through provincial and territorial titles will be added to the Hearts roster. The foursome led by Kerri Einarson returns as the reigning champions.

From March 1–10 in Regina, Nunavut will participate in the Canadian men’s championship in 2024. In Montana’s Brier, a team skipped by Shane Latimer will compete.

Representing Lethbridge in the Canadian Curling Club Championship

Competition at a national curling event is underway and a local team is among the top-ranked groups.

The Lethbridge Curling Club said Team Dupont is representing Team AB at the 2023 Everest Canadian Curling Club Championship (CCCC).

The event sees the country’s best 28 teams compete with all provinces and territories represented.

The skip for Team Dupont, Nanette Dupont, stated that although they had participated in the competition before, each time seems even more incredible.

We are ecstatic to be competing for the fourth time at the National Championship on behalf of the Province of Alberta and the Lethbridge Curling Club. I’m happy with the group. To compete at this level requires commitment and a significant deal of work, so finishing fourth is an amazing feat, according to Dupont.

The CCCC kicked off of November 19, 2023, in Winnipeg, MB. The Alberta squad is presently in second place in the Pool B rankings with five victories and one loss.

Kirk Mearns, the coach of 2023 Team Alberta and general manager of the Lethbridge Curling Club, stated that the next championships will have extremely skilled competitors.

“Nanette and Team Dupont have been competing at the highest levels for years, and we know that the Lethbridge Curling Club has some of the best curling teams in the province,” Mearns stated. It brings us great pride to see them compete in the Canadian Championships on behalf of our province. As their coach this year, I couldn’t be more delighted.

Team Dupont took home three medals from the 2015 CCCC: silver, bronze, and gold. Teams are limited to two yearly competitions.

They also took home the 2023 Alberta Club Championship – Women title and were voted Curling Alberta’s 2020 Team of the Year.

The last day of competition is this Saturday, November 25. Both TSN+ and the Curling Canada website offer access to the games.
