The Preview: 49ers vs. Commanders: odds, predictions, and how to watch the game on Sunday.
NFL Week 17 action takes place at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, where the NFC-leading San Francisco 49ers (11-4) will travel east to play the Washington Commanders (4-11).
The 49ers lost hard to the Baltimore Ravens 33-19 on Monday Night Football, and they are going into their penultimate game of the regular season. On Christmas Day, in prime time, San Francisco’s offense threw five interceptions, a season high, and the team snapped a six-game winning streak. With four interceptions, quarterback Brock Purdy—previously the front-runner for MVP—had the worst game of his NFL career. Even though the 49ers’ defense limited the top-ranked Ravens running attack to 102 yards on the ground this season, they were still defeated.
Week 17 NFL power rankings: Ravens take the top spot after dominating the 49ers
After defeating New England on the road in Week 9, Washington has been in free decline. Consecutive losses to Seattle, the Giants, Dallas, Miami, the Rams, and the Jets have supporters looking forward to a top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Sam Howell, the starting quarterback, was benched for Sunday’s 49ers game in favor of Jacoby Brissett, although Brissett’s status is uncertain due to a hamstring issue. Washington’s defense is allowing a league-worst 30.2 points and 384.3 yards per game, so neither quarterback will get much assistance.
49ers defensive end Chase Young, who was traded by Washington to San Francisco during Week 8, will be reunited with his former team. In the 2020 draft, Washington selected Young with the second overall pick.

Selectwise: 49ers – 13
Staff writer: “I don’t think this game will be close at all; I think the 49ers offense will overwhelm the Commanders early.” I’m going with San Francisco to win by two touchdowns.
Washington 14, 49ers 35 in Athlon Sports
Our staff states: “The 49ers have been favored by 13.5 points or more three times this season and covered the spread in one of them.”
49ers -12.5 are the clutchpoints.
“The Niners are going to come out and make a statement after getting humiliated,” claims Robert Hayek. As a result, anticipate that they will completely outclass the Commanders.”
