The Injury Report today for the Packers vs. Cowboys on Thursday: Jaire Alexander is not practicing.
Against the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in a pivotal playoff game, Packers CB Jaire Alexander skipped practice on Thursday.
GREEN BAY, Wisconsin: CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys led the NFL in catches this season. Will Jaire Alexander, a cornerback for the Green Bay Packers, be available to play against him in Sunday’s wild-card playoff game?
When practice on Thursday began and reporters were let inside the Don Hutson Center, the two-time All-Pro cornerback did not take part in it. Alexander suffered an ankle injury during the low-intensity walk-through practice on Wednesday, which caused him to miss six straight games due to a shoulder ailment.
After practice on Thursday, coach Matt LaFleur remarked, “It was kind of a freak deal yesterday.” “Unfortunately, rolled his ankle after stepping on someone else’s foot. I am aware that he is making every effort to be accessible.
LaFleur phoned Alexander “day to day” but believed it was better to give Alexander the day off.
Joe Barry, the defensive coordinator, gave some encouraging news on Thursday.
While walking down a hallway in the direction of the showers, Alexander avoided talking to reporters in the locker area. He was not wearing a walking boot when I stole a short glance behind the locker walls.
Alexander served a one-week suspension before returning to action last week. According to Pro Football Focus’ calculations of coverage duties, he allowed just one reception during the team’s victory over Chicago.
A much stiffer matchup against Lamb, Dak Prescott, and the high-flying Cowboys—who led the league in scoring—looms on Sunday. Lamb had 135 receptions for 1st place in the NFL, 1,749 yards for second, and 12 touchdowns for third place.
Prescott, who is vying for NFL MVP after tossing a league-high 36 touchdown passes, favors Lamb as his favorite receiver. Lamb has more receptions and receiving yards than Green Bay’s top two in those categories.
Notably, receivers Christian Watson (hamstring) and Romeo Doubs (chest) worked out for the second day in a row. Against Chicago, Doubs got hurt in the first quarter and was hospitalized for a short while.
Doubs stated, “I’m feeling a lot better than I did just during that time I’ve been progressing.” “I’m most excited about my progress over the course of the week.
The past five games, Watson has been absent.
Watson stated, “It’s 100 percent in my head” that he is playing. However, evidently, as of last week, you still need to convince them. I’m doing everything I can to be able to go on Sunday, not that I wasn’t doing everything I could before.
Watson hoped to play versus Chicago but did not. He thought he was “75, 80 percent” healthy at the time. Prior to acting again, he would aim to reach 90%.
That would be the objective, he declared. “[Being] 70-75 with what I do on the field just isn’t enough,” he added. It would have been plainly worse off if I had gone out there and probably worse off for myself as well, given the opportunity to make a playoff run and knowing that we have the people in the room to achieve it anyhow.
After practice on Friday, according to LaFleur, he will have a better idea of Watson and Doubs’ availability.
Only Alexander and left guard Elgton Jenkins (ankle/knee) and running back AJ Dillon (neck/thumb) did not practice.
On Wednesday, Dillon was the lone player who skipped practice. He reported that he feels “definitely better than last week” from the stinger that kept him out of the Chicago game.
Jenkins has consistently skipped one session every week in order to be as fit as possible for the games.
Cornerback Stephon Gilmore of the Cowboys resumed practice with a dislocated shoulder last week. Only seven Dallas players are listed in the most recent report.
