Injury report: Marsh is on the injured list; additional outfield players may be added soon.
Update from skysport22.com 2024
Outfielder Brandon Marsh entered the Citizens Bank Park clubhouse of the Phillies just after 10:30 on Sunday morning. He had not used crutches before, having collided with the center field fence while attempting to follow Kansas City’s Samad Taylor’s long drive the previous evening.
As expected, manager Rob Thomson declared that Marsh had a bruised left knee and had been placed on the injured list approximately an hour later. To replace him on the roster, Triple-A Lehigh Valley’s Weston Wilson has been called up.
When questioned about how long he thought Marsh would be out, Thomson replied, “Probably two to three weeks.” It is, of course, a loss. Among our stronger batters is him. But it needs to be picked up by the other guys. And we shouldn’t miss a beat if the other guys hit like they should.
Marsh was taking batting practice. In 101 games this season, he has hit 284 with 8 home runs, 44 RBI, and a.832 OPS.
The Phillies didn’t miss a beat in their 8-4 victory over the Royals on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park, which was sold out. Nick Castellanos scored a home run. One of Kyle Schwarber’s three hits was a home run. BStott scored a home run. Bryce Harper nearly hit a home run despite recording a double and a single.
It’s heartening. Indeed, it is,” manager Rob Thomson remarked.
Schwarber continued, saying, “Marsh has been doing such an amazing job.” It’s obviously not ideal to have him on the IL. However, that is what makes this game so lovely. For a few more days, it might be someone else. After a week, it can be someone else. Across the entire lineup, we have players with exceptional talent. We desire his return. Believe me. However, it is our responsibility to ensure that there isn’t a hole there.
After receiving negative results from his x-rays taken on Saturday night, Marsh had expressed his optimism that he would only miss one or two games. However, a series of additional tests conducted on Sunday morning revealed that the injury was more serious than first believed.
Johan Rojas is expected to play center field the most, according to Thomson, though Wilson and Jake Cave are also possibilities.
Since being promoted from Double-A Reading on July 14, Rojas is hitting.326 and has demonstrated excellent defense. His two hits on Sunday were the result of his staying in a rundown for the duration of the eighth inning, which allowed the other two runners to reach second and third and ultimately resulted in an important insurance run for the Phillies.
In the fourth, he was the first to be picked off, further demonstrating his weakness.
Through interpreter Diego Ettedgui, Rojas remarked, “I’m always ready to help the team win.” “Every time I step out there, I’m going to give it my all. To be honest, I hope Marsh heals quickly. He is a great asset to the group. To me, he is like a brother. However, I’m going to make the most of this moment and try my best in the interim.
He credited his early achievements to perseverance and the team’s network of support. He said, “I have to give a lot of credit to my teammates and hitting coaches who have a lot more experience than me and give me advice on how to face certain pitchers.”
Right-handed hitter Wilson, 28, was hitting.260 for the IronPigs with 25 home runs, 69 RBI, and an.884 OPS. Wilson was signed as a minor league free agent during the offseason. Additionally, he stole 23 bases.
Thomson praised the player’s performance. Aimed at left-handed pitchers. He offers us a great deal of flexibility because he can play anywhere. functions fairly well. Quite good at defending. He plays the game well.
He was chosen in part due to the Phillies’ upcoming four-game Nationals series, which starts on Monday night, which features two lefty starters, MacKenzie Gore and Patrick Corbin.
When he plays in his first game, it will be his Major League debut. He arrived at Citizens Bank Park in the first inning after learning of his promotion early on Sunday morning.
There may be more outfield reinforcements coming. On Tuesday, Cristian Pache is anticipated to start a rehabilitation assignment.
Marsh’s play brought back memories of Aaron Rowand smashing into the unpadded center field fence not long after Citizens Bank Park opened in 2004. He was listed as disabled and received serious facial injuries.
Marsh said he was well aware of Rowand’s spot in Phillies history. “The difference is, he made his catch. I didn’t make mine,” he said
