NEWS NOW: Cowboys ready to put their road problems behind them in Miami

At home, Dallas appears unbeatable. Taking the show on the road is proving to be too much for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys were humiliated last weekend in Buffalo and will seek to rebound when they face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Dallas (10-4) has won all seven of its home games. That level of play does not translate on the road. Dak Prescott, the quarterback, is baffled by the change in play.

“This next week of preparation and honestly these next couple of weeks are about figuring out what that difference is and trying to close that gap,” Mr. Prescott said. “Obviously, we’d like to come out and produce like we do at home, but that hasn’t happened.”

“So we’ve got to find out what those answers are and try to close that gap and we can’t be those two different other teams.”

In a 31-10 loss against Buffalo, the Cowboys were pushed all over the field and allowed 266 rushing yards. Dallas coach Mike McCarthy was horrified by the manner of the assault.

“That’s the message,” McCarthy declared. “We play so well at home, and there’s just too big a gap on the road, which we’re aware of.” We can do better than this.”

Dallas was thrashed 42-10 by the home San Francisco 49ers earlier this season. The Cowboys have also lost on the road against the Arizona Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Dolphins (10-4) lead the Bills by two games in the AFC East, but quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is battling with a storyline he doesn’t like.

Despite passing for 3,921 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, the story is that Tagovailoa is outperforming his talents because he has talented teammates like wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, as well as running back Raheem Mostert.

“I couldn’t care less whether I’m the best or the worst. “I don’t pay attention to it,” Tagovailoa stated. “At the end of the day, I don’t really care….”

“Sure, sure. You are correct that I am just excellent with Tyreek. That is the only time I perform at my peak. You’re right; I’m only effective when Jaylen is present. I couldn’t give a damn about it. I can only be as good as Raheem Mostert lets me be. That is what the narrative must be. And we’re capable of winning games and moving forward as a club. If you’re looking for the worst football player in the world, go no further. “I don’t mind.”

Hill missed last weekend’s 30-0 thrashing of the New York Jets due to an ankle injury suffered in a Dec. 11 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Hill was on the field for less than half of the game against the Titans, and Tagovailoa did not throw a touchdown pass. Against the Jets, he hit Waddle for a 60-yard touchdown throw.

Hill leads the NFL with 1,542 yards, 97 catches, and 12 touchdown receptions. He was one of seven Dolphins who did not practice on Wednesday.

Mostert (knee/ankle) and fellow running back De’Von Achane (toe) were both ruled out. Mostert set the franchise single-season record with 20 touchdowns versus the Jets. He is also 34 yards away from his first 1,000-yard season.

Offense lineman Terron Armstead (knee/ankle), guards Robert Hunt (ankle) and Austin Jackson (oblique), and cornerback Xavien Howard (hip) were the other Dolphins who did not practice.

Dallas was missing two eight-time Pro Bowlers in guard Zack Martin (thigh) and tackle Tyron Smith (back). Malik Hooker (ankle) was absent from the defensive workout.

CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys is having a fantastic season, with 107 receptions for 1,306 yards and eight touchdowns. He needs nine catches to break Hall of Famer Michael Irvin’s single-season franchise record of nine established in 1995.

Dallas had won the previous four meetings against the Dolphins, the most recent of which was a 31-6 home win in 2019.
