NEWS NOW: PACKERS SUSPEND THEIR CB, FOR MISTAKE AGAINST PANTHERS.
The Green Bay Packers did not take Jaire Alexander’s coin toss error against the Carolina Panthers last week lightly. The Pro Bowl cornerback has been suspended for one game after being chastised by the team’s head coach, Matt LaFleur.

Alexander made the decision on his own to join the Packers’ captains for the coin toss before the Panthers game and be the one to make the call. While the 26-year-old correctly called tails, he also stated that his side prefers to remain on defense. This would give Carolina first possession in both the first and second halves.
Rather than accepting Alexander’s selection, official Alex Kemp asked him to clarify whether he intended to “defer” the decision to the second half. This means that the Packers will be on defense in the first half but will have the option of taking the first possession in the second half. Kemp did this because LaFleur had previously warned him that if Green Bay wins the coin toss, they want to delay.
The Packers suspended Alexander for the upcoming game against the Minnesota Vikings due to “conduct detrimental to the team.” In a statement, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst acknowledged the decision was neither easy or taken lightly.
“As an organization, we have an expectation that everyone puts the team first,” he said. “While we are disappointed, we had a good conversation with Jaire this morning and fully expect him to learn from this as we work together in the future.” We look forward to welcoming him back next week since he is and will continue to be an important member of this squad.”
The penalty adds to Jaire Alexander’s 2023 campaign’s disappointment. He has only appeared in six games this season due to a variety of injuries. So far this season, he has 26 tackles, four passes defensed, and one forced fumble.
