With 21 signees, Iowa football has assembled a good scholarship class for the 2024 cycle.
The Hawkeyes have also assembled a talented preferred walk-on class, and we all know how vital building walk-ons is to the Hawkeyes’ program.
The Hawkeyes now have 11 walk-ons in the 2024 class, but Iowa is seeking for more over the next week and month as it closes off the 2024 cycle.
Let’s take a look at Iowa’s current walk-on signees.
Western Dubuque High School (Epworth, Iowa)
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 202 lbs.
Senior Season Stats: As a senior, Glausser had 334 carries for 2,908 running yards and 33 touchdowns. He also had 13 receptions for 215 yards and four touchdowns in Western Dubuque’s Class 4A State Championship loss.
Overview: Glausser got on Iowa’s radar later in his senior season, but it was his performance in the state semifinals and championship at the UNI-Dome last month that really sold the Hawkeyes on him. Glausser, a former Minnesota State commit, rushed for 193 yards and scored twice in the state semifinal victory over Bondurant-Farrar. In the loss to Lewis Central, he set the Class 4A State Championship record with 268 yards on 33 attempts and three touchdowns. He was knocked out cold and then returned to the game. Glausser really puked on the field after being hit, then returned two plays later. Glausser had 16 carries for 154 yards and three touchdowns after throwing up on the field violently, in addition to the figures he had before the hit. Glausser shattered the Class 4A state championship record formerly held by former Iowa running back Tavian Banks, who established the mark with 250 yards in the 1992 final. Glausser is the class’s lone walk-on running back, joining scholarship running back additions Brevin Doll and Xavier Williams.
Kuemper Catholic High School (Carroll, Iowa)
6-foot-3 tall
Weight: 210 lbs.
Senior Season Stats: On offense, Vonnahme concluded the year with 28 receptions for 567 yards and 12 touchdowns. On defense, he had 18 tackles and five interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
Overview: Vonnahme, a former high school quarterback, wide receiver, and safety, will play linebacker at Iowa. Vonnahme was a wide receiver and safety for the Knights this fall, and they were one game away from reaching the state playoffs. Vonnahme picked the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Northern Iowa, Colorado State, and South Dakota as a preferred walk-on. Vonnahme possesses a number of intriguing characteristics that make him an intriguing fit for Iowa as a preferred walk-on. He has excellent ball skills, the ability to play in space, and excellent instincts. He’ll need to improve as a blocker, enhance his route running, and gain a lot of weight once he arrives at Iowa, though the Hawkeyes’ strength and conditioning department is well-known for doing so.
Waverly-Shell Rock High School (Waverly, Iowa)
6-foot-6 tall
Weight: 210 lbs.
Marsh has 18 receptions for 320 yards and eight touchdowns in his senior season. He recorded four tackles, two tackles for a loss, and an interception on defense.
Marsh is the second preferred walk-on addition at the tight end position in Iowa’s 2024 class. The Waverly native was a quarterback for the Go-Hawks as a junior before switching to tight end as a senior, where he is expected to start at Iowa. Marsh has a multi-sport experience and will be one of the taller tight ends in Iowa’s tight end room whenever he arrives in Iowa City. Marsh had offers from Grand View, Upper Iowa, and Northern State, as well as one from Northern Iowa, but he chose to attend the Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on.
Grundy Center High School (Grundy Center, Iowa)
6-foot-5 tall
Weight: 235 lbs.
Senior Season Stats: Grundy Center won the Class 1A State Championship, and Cakerice was one of the state’s most dominant players. He concluded the season with 56.5 tackles, 16.5 sacks, and 16.5 tackles for loss.
Cakerice is expected to play defensive line for Iowa, and his high school performance speaks for itself. Cakerice was a member of a Grundy Center team that won back-to-back 1A state championships, and he was one of the class’s most imposing linemen. Cakerice will need to bulk up once he arrives in Iowa City, but the pieces are in place for him to eventually have an impact on that defense. He has the potential to be a strong run stopper for Iowa as a defensive tackle at the next level.
