Mason Crosby, a former Green Bay Packers kicker, has had a difficult year in 2023. He had a difficult time finding a new team after the Packers felt it was time to part company with their all-time top scorer. Despite being signed by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this month, he did not play in a game for them before being released.
Crosby was signed by the New York Giants a few days ago. Unlike his brief stay in Los Angeles, he was thrust into action against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Crosby converted both extra point tries and his only field goal attempt, a 52-yarder.
While the 2023 NFL season may nearly be at an end, it is satisfying for Crosby (and his family) to finally be on the field again. While he may be 39 years old, he has proven that he still has the leg strength to be a NFL kicker.
Leaving Green Bay was not easy, as his wife Molly detailed in a series of posts earlier this year. However, the city, the state of Wisconsin, and Packers fans have made a lasting impression on the Crosby family.
After Crosby made his 52-yard field goal on Monday night, his wife Molly posted the following on X (formerly Twitter):
“I’d like to take a moment to thank you. God, thank you for the gift of His Son. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your organization for so long. Thank you to #packernation for your love and support throughout the last 16 seasons, and for showering us with best wishes and real joy as we seize the opportunity.
“We enjoy football. We adore our relatives. We enjoy it when football brings our family together. We had a great time being on your team and are thrilled to be cheered on by you even as we don new uniforms. God bless you and your family, and may we all be as enthusiastic about our fellow man as we are about our favorite sports teams.
“I truly cannot thank you enough. Wisconsin, you’re stuck with us for the rest of your life! I can’t wait to meet you, New York! Christmas greetings!”
As they saw Crosby kick on Monday night, many Packers supporters voiced their admiration and respect for him. Despite the organization’s choice to let him go this summer, he is still a fan favorite.
That devotion is evidently shared by his family, which should make Packers fans proud.
