Luke Musgrave, a rookie tight end for the Green Bay Packers, is on his road back from a lacerated kidney. He miraculously played through his injury.
It’s been a month since Musgrave took a 10-yard pass and landed awkwardly on the ball itself in a Week 11 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, but he still managed to finish the game.
“Not horrible,” Musgrave said, via Packers.com. “I knew something was probably wrong, but it’s kind of football. You play through pain and then it usually hurts more after the game.”
It didn’t take long for the 23-year-old to realize it was a kidney issue, either.
“When I got home,” he said. “Just blood in the urine.”
He was then advised by the Packers medical staff to go to the emergency room immediately.
“Yeah, it wasn’t awesome,” he said.
Luckily he didn’t need emergency surgery, however.
For now, he’s going to continue listening to the doctors as he hopes to return this season. His goal is to play as soon as possible.
“Internal organs are definitely a little bit different than your normal football injury. But good people, good team, a lot of good stuff to say about the training room. It was good, and I think we’re on the right track.”
