NEWS NOW: The Green Bay Packers have found a replacement for their head coach but…
Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has made ideas for who he believes should be the next head coach of his former team, including current Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, although he is not one of them. For the time being.
“Never say never,” Favre said last week to TMZ Sports. “It’s certainly intriguing, but trust me when I say that’s not going to happen.” That has to pique your interest, right? They’d never offer, and even if they did, that’s… “Neither I nor they are prepared for that.”
Favre, who was the offensive coordinator at Oak Grove High School when it won the Mississippi state championship in 2013, says he isn’t ready or eager to enter the professional coaching ranks just yet.
“That’s a far cry from the professional aspect of it,” Favre told reporters. “Will I go through with it?” Nobody knows. I believe I have a lot to give the next level and the one after that. As a college and professional football coach, there is very little time for anything other than football. I’m not willing to give up that time right now.”
Former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll were among Favre’s other recommendations.
The 11-time Pro Bowler, now 49, stated that “no one’s asked” for his opinion, but his mention of buddy and former teammate Pederson drew notice from multiple media sources.
“Now, I don’t know if they can get him from Philly, or if he would even consider that,” he remarked. “But there’s another young guy who is very creative and has proven he can win the big one.”
This summer, Pederson, who guided the Eagles to a Super Bowl triumph in 2017, received a contract extension through 2022.
