Order of the 2024 NFL Draft: Packers drop from postseason contention to……
This is a look at the first-round order for the 2024 NFL Draft as of Week 16 of the 2023 NFL season, as well as each team’s top five needs. The order is determined by record, with schedule strength serving as the first tiebreaker (for a complete list of draft-order tiebreakers, go here). Keep in mind that in the order below, teams that would make the playoffs if the season ended today are denoted as PL (short for playoffs). The results of postseason play decide the selection order for playoff clubs.
The arrows represent movement since last week’s order.
Getting DJ Moore last offseason was a significant gain for general manager Ryan Poles, but the rest of the 2024 receiving corps is still up in the air, with veterans Darnell Mooney and Equanimeous St. Brown due to hit free agency. Rookie Tyler Scott has shown promise this season, but Chicago needs add playmakers through the draft and/or free agency if Justin Fields (or a new quarterback acquired with this pick) is to thrive.
The Patriots’ cornerback position has been a thorn in their side all season. J.C. Jackson has been a non-factor since returning to Foxborough from Los Angeles in early October, and he could be a salary cap casualty at the end of the season. Jack Jones was let go by the organization in mid-November, while Myles Bryant is set to become a free agent. Christian Gonzalez and Marcus Jones will return from injury in 2024 to help Jonathan Jones, but adding depth should be a top goal for New England throughout the middle of the draft.
