DONE DEAL: The 49ers have signed a young talented 21-year-old player as a replacement.
The 49ers have announced that center Daniel Kilgore has signed a three-year contract extension through 2020.
Here is GM John Lynch’s statement:
“We are extremely pleased to have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Dan prior to free agency.” He is very much a team leader, and his hard work and dedication to our success set a great example for our young team. When you come across players who are passionate about the game, like Dan, you do everything you can to keep them in your building.”
This is an excellent signing.
Kilgore, 30, is probably inexpensive and brings experience to a difficult situation. He can make plays at the line of scrimmage and is familiar with Kyle Shanahan’s complicated offense.
Kilgore, on the other hand, should not be a starter. He isn’t up to the task. He should serve as a backup and mentor to a younger center signed or drafted by the 49ers this offseason.
