Done deal: the Green Bay Packers have signed a high-caliber player who is eager to contribute energy and creativity to the team….

According to multiple reports, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ new contract is for three years and $150 million. He is expected to earn $42 million in 2022, $59.52 million in 2023, and $49.3 million in 2024

Rodgers’ contract was extended by the Packers on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are very pleased to have been able to come to an agreement with Aaron that keeps him in

Green Bay  general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement. “His performance on the field and leadership in our locker room will be critical in our quest for a second Super Bowl title.” The agreement also allows us to keep and improve on what we believe is already a very competitive roster

Rodgers confirmed in a tweet last week that he was staying with the Packers, ending speculation that he would leave the team following a 13-10 playoff loss to the 49ers in January. It also came after Rodgers’ repeated non-committal statements about his future, which had been uncertain following each of the previous two seasons

Rodgers, 38, was recently named NFL MVP for the fourth time and the second time in a row, becoming only the second player since the award’s inception in 1957 to win it more than three times. He is only the fifth player in NFL history to win consecutive MVPs, joining Peyton Manning (2008-09), Brett Favre (1995-97) Joe Montana (1989-90) and Jim Brown (1957-58). Along with Manning and Tom Brady, he is the third player to win MVP 10 or more seasons apart

Rodgers nearly matched his incredible 2020 season in 2021, completing 68.9 percent of his passes for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a passer rating of 111.9. He has a career passer rating of 104.5 after completing 65.3 percent of his passes for 55,360 yards, 449 touchdowns, and only 93 interceptions

Before Rodgers’ new contract, the Packers were about $21.9 million over the salary cap, according to Over the Cap. The reported $18.2 million cap savings in 2022 nearly gets them under it, which they must do by Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT, the start of the new league year

According to OTC, one move that could accomplish this is the release of slot receiver Randall Cobb which would free up $6.7 million. Cobb could then be re-signed by the Packers after the new league year begins
