The 23-year-old will miss the next three Leeds United games after being called up to the national team at an unusual time.

Leeds United will be without Ian Poveda for the next three games after he was called up to Colombia’s national team.

Daniel Farke may have thought internationals were over after the season’s third break in November, but that is not the case for Poveda.

The 23-year-old has been named to a Colombia squad that will face Venezuela on December 10 and Mexico on December 16.

Leeds have games against Blackburn Rovers (a), Sunderland (a), and Coventry City (h) during that time, so he will miss all three unless he is brought back early for whatever reason.

Ian Poveda makes Blackburn Rovers loan move - Leeds United

Thankfully, Leeds are well-stocked in his position, but Farke brought him off the bench against Rotherham United less than two weeks ago due to his performances on the training pitch.

Poveda will play some minutes for Colombia.
Poveda is one of only three European players named to the squad, which effectively functions as a Colombia B team.

Luis Diaz, Luis Sinisterra, and reported Leeds target John Arias are not included, with manager Nestor Lorenzo using the opportunity to assess some fringe players.

The majority of the squad has come from leagues where the season is over, such as the MLS, with Poveda appearing to have been made available due to his lack of minutes at Leeds recently.

Despite a strong pre-season and promising start to life under Farke, Poveda has played just 31 minutes since starting the season opener against Birmingham City.

He is currently ranked behind Crysencio Summerville, Dan James, Willy Gnonto, and Jaidon Anthony in the pecking order for a spot on the wings under Farke.
