MANAGER REACTS TO SUGGESTIONS THAT HIS £50M ACE MAY ‘GO TO NEWCASTLE’ IN JANUARY

Mikel Arteta wants Aaron Ramsdale to stay at Arsenal, but he can’t rule out a January move to Premier League rival Newcastle United for the £50 million-rated England international.

Please forgive us for saying so, but your comments didn’t do much to dispel the rumors swirling around Aaron Ramsdale in the run-up to the January transfer window.

On the one hand, the Arsenal manager stated that Ramsdale would not be leaving in the new year. Then, just seconds later, he appeared to contradict himself, insisting that he ‘cannot guarantee that nobody is going to leave’ with Newcastle looking for a goalkeeper to replace the injured Nick Pope.

“I want Aaron to be with us,” the former Manchester City assistant tells talkSPORT. “I am thrilled to have two excellent goalkeepers, and Aaron is staying with us.”

“(However), I will not rule out any player’s exit.” Any player will do. I cannot guarantee that no Arsenal player will leave in January. Or he’ll be here for the next three years.

“I won’t say no player is going to Newcastle.” Or, alternatively, no member of the staff. I’m not going to say it. I won’t say whether you said yes or no.

“I cannot guarantee that no one will leave in January.” Newcastle United or any other club. So the answer is no.”

David de Gea is another option.
Really, it’s as clear as mud.

Of course, Ramsdale may have a large say in the matter. With Pope out for up to four months, the prospect of regular first-team football at Newcastle United is likely to pique the interest of a player who has fallen behind David Raya in the Arsenal pecking order. Particularly with his place in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad potentially on the line.

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle are also considering a move for former Manchester United hero and now-free agent David de Gea.
