Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United will hope to shake off a hip problem in time to return to his old haunts on Thursday night, and the former Everton academy graduate knows what awaits him.

Anthony Gordon insists his return to a hostile Goodison Park will be ‘no different’ than any other game, as the in-form Newcastle United forward looks to lead his team to another victory.

Gordon, of course, has already visited his old club Newcastle, where he came on as a late substitute in a 4-1 win over Everton in April. Despite Gordon’s brief appearance, Eddie Howe felt it was a’really good thing for him to mentally just deal with’ and ‘get it out of the way’ following the 22-year-old’s acrimonious departure.

Gordon has gone on to flourish for Newcastle and the former Everton academy graduate has been directly involved in seven goals in his last eight Premier League games, including the winner in a 1-0 victory against Manchester United last time out. That form has led to Gordon becoming one of the first names on the team sheet at Newcastle and the Scouser will be desperate to shake off a hip issue and play on Thursday night.

Goodison was already going to be rocking under the lights – Everton’s recent points deduction has united the club’s supporters further – but you suspect the mere sight of Gordon will whip the home fans into a frenzy. Rather than being cowed, that is just the sort of atmosphere Gordon could thrive in.

This game coming up is no different for me than any of the others,” Gordon told NUFC TV. “It’s another game I’m looking to perform in and win.

“We’re in a really good place, but we know the environment we’re going to go into on Thursday so it’s no secret. We need to be ready for that. It’s going to be a challenging game and one that we’re looking to win.
