“You’ve got to feel like you’re dangerous out there.”
On Friday, veteran quarterback Tim Boyle will make his first start for the Jets against the Miami Dolphins. And he discussed his mindset heading into the game with reporters on Tuesday.
Boyle hasn’t played a leading role in a long time. His final and only start came in 2021 with the Detroit Lions, where he appeared in three games.
Neither he nor his team fared well in those games. The Lions lost all three of his starts that season, and his stats weren’t exactly stellar.
This leaves some Jets fans pessimistic about their Week 12 game against the Dolphins. However, he is not the same quarterback he was with the Lions in 2021, according to Boyle.
“I feel like my actual play on the field has changed since then,” Boyle told Yahoo Sports’ Dennis Waszak Jr. “I was coming off a thumb injury, and I didn’t feel like myself during those three starts in Detroit.” I felt like I was in good enough shape to play, but I didn’t feel particularly confident. So I’m simply returning to myself and believing in myself.”
Confidence is undoubtedly an important factor in the success of any quarterback. However, Boyle added that “being dangerous” is another important aspect of the game. And he intends to be just that in his Jets debut.
“You’ve got to feel like you’re dangerous out there,” he said. “You can’t go into a play or a series with any reservations. Going in there and feeling like I’m the guy and that I’m not going to miss is critical. That’s the main point.”
Only time will tell if Boyle’s “dangerous” attitude is enough to help the Jets’ struggling offense on Friday. But it appears that the veteran quarterback is ready for his latest opportunity to prove himself on the field.
