World snooker champion Luca Brecel believes bow ties should be banned because they cause him to lose “roughly 20 percent” of his game.

This year at the Crucible, the Belgian Bullet won the world title in spectacular fashion while donning the customary waistcoat and bow tie that snooker fans have grown to love.

However, the 28-year-old feels that he cannot play at his best when wearing the constricting apparel, and he believes that many other players feel the same way.

Asked what changes he would make to snooker if he was making the decisions, he immediately honed in on clothing, telling : ‘One of them is definitely dress code.

‘The bow tie is just horrible. I lose about 20 per cent of my game when I play with a bow tie and I think there are other players have said it as well backstage.

Perhaps relax the dress code a little bit. In certain photos, the shirt, pants, and other items make you feel constrictive.

“I know it’s a competitive sport, and it probably looks good on TV, but we need to find a solution.”

This week at the Champion of Champions, where he opens on Tuesday afternoon against Barry Hawkins, Brecel will be dressed more casually.

Instead of the customary shirt and waistcoat, the Matchroom-hosted event now features t-shirts with the players’ names and nicknames printed on the reverse.

Brecel wants to see a shot clock used in more tournaments, but he’s not content to just come up with creative clothes ideas.

To speed up play, the world champion would like to see shot clocks used more frequently, as they are now only used in the Shoot Out competition on the main circuit.

“I think a shot clock would be a good idea, aside from the dress code,” he remarked. Maybe I would have it in any of the competitions. Simply aim to make it more appealing more quickly.

“Since this is an entertainment industry, we have to be quicker and more entertaining, so I always try to look at it from the viewer’s perspective.”

In a teaser for a documentary, young Ronnie O’Sullivan makes the interviewer giggle.
In a recently discovered footage from his new David Beckham-produced documentary, a youthful Ronnie O’Sullivan made people chuckle with a sardonic joke about his height.

The top snooker player in the world, Ronnie O’Sullivan: The Edge of Everything, follows the player who gave cameras access to his Crucible campaign last year, including the build-up and throughout the competition.

On November 23, the Studio 99-produced film will debut on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.

Starting on November 24, it will also be accessible in a few theaters.
