LATEST UPDATE: Dolphins rookie De’Von Achane, a running back, will be activated from injured reserve.

Achane’s knee was more of a sprain, according to coach Mike McDaniel.

Florida’s Miami Gardens — After missing the previous four games due to a knee injury, Miami rookie running back De’Von Achane resumed practice on Monday. This means that he has 21 days to be activated from injured reserve.

Achane hasn’t participated in games since suffering a knee injury late in the New York Giants game in Week 5.

Achane’s knee was more of a sprain, according to coach Mike McDaniel, and could have been treated with a brace. However, the team decided it would be best to place him on injured reserve so that his knee could heal completely.

“I just didn’t really envision him being one that would really flourish with a brace,” McDaniel said on Monday.

Dolphins De'Von Achane injury update: RB returns to practice

“We took the time to ensure that we could achieve total structural strength. Although we erred on the side of caution, everything appears to be in order for today’s practice.”

Achane’s status for Sunday’s Dolphins game against the Las Vegas Raiders remains unknown, according to McDaniel. After a bye week, Miami (6-3) leads the AFC East at the moment.

Prior to the injury, Achane—who the Dolphins selected in the third round this year—led the NFL in yards per carry (12.1). In four games, he amassed 460 yards of rush yardage and seven touchdowns overall.

After being a healthy scratch in the season opener and receiving just one carry for five yards the following week, Achane had a breakout performance in Week 3 against Denver. In Miami’s 70-20 victory over Denver, the former Texas A&M running back led the team with 203 total yards on 18 carries, 11.3 yards per rush, and four touchdowns. He also gained an immediate promotion to the starting lineup for the Dolphins’ then-top-ranked rushing offense.

Miami’s output on the ground has somewhat decreased over the last four games. After Achane’s injury, the Dolphins have averaged 100.5 yards per game of rushes, compared to 185.8 yards per game entering Week 5. Twice in the last four games, they have fallen short of 100 yards.

With 605 rushing yards and a league-high 11 rushing touchdowns, Raheem Mostert leads the team in this stat.

NOTES: According to McDaniel, injured offensive linemen Rob Jones (knee) and Rob Hunt (hamstring) are both week to week. The group is interested in seeing how both react during this week’s practice.

Though McDaniel doesn’t anticipate it, Miami’s adaptable lineman Kendall Lamm, who has filled in at tackle, will take some practice reps at guard.Running back De’Von Achane returns to the Miami Dolphins practice on Monday.

After being placed on injury reserve due to a knee injury, rookie running back De’Von Achane returned to the practice field as the Miami Dolphins activated his 21-day practice window.

Since injuring himself during the game against the New York Giants on October 8, Achane has missed four games.

The running back was placed on injured reserve (IR) as a precautionary measure, even though Achane’s injury was never thought to be serious.

Whether or not Achane plays Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders will depend on how the week unfolds.

“No tearing was present. In his press conference on Monday, McDaniel stated, “It was more of a strain-type injury.”

With 460 yards and seven touchdowns gained from running the ball in the four games he has been healthy, Achane is having a breakout season thus far.

The Miami Dolphins had a bye this week before hosting the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
