Current Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper’s team gets ready for their Premier League matchup against the Hatters
Nottingham Forest’s next game after the international break is a matchup with recently promoted Luton Town.
With eight games played, the Reds have nine points, good for 13th place in the Premier League standings. They want to start strong and have already shown a lot of promise this season.
But on Saturday (3pm kickoff), Steve Cooper’s team will be keen to get back to winning ways. After recording back-to-back draws prior to the campaign’s pause, they have gone four games without winning.
It was hoped by Forest that the break would allow some of their injured players to heal. Even though head coach Cooper is known for being reticent when it comes to discussing players’ availability, he did not provide a particularly encouraging update during his pre-match press conference.
Right now, the hosts might not have enough full-backs. Prior to the match, Gonzalo Montiel, who was serving with Argentina, was scheduled to undergo an evaluation due to a calf injury. Furthermore, Cooper did not reveal much about Serge Aurier’s chances of playing after he was substituted during the 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.
Despite being sidelined due to a groyne issue, Taiwo Awoniyi is reportedly “progressing well” in his recuperation. Cooper added that nothing had changed in regards to Ola Aina, Nuno Tavares, Danilo, and Felipe—all of whom have been sidelined.
On the other hand, Moussa Niakhate, the centre back, will be back available. He was sent off against Brentford and was suspended for the trip to Selhurst Park.
Cooper also mentioned that Andrew Omobamidele, who was signed on deadline day, might make his debut soon, even though it seems unlikely he would start. Since leaving Norwich City, he has not yet been included in the starting lineup, but he is reportedly performing well in training.
“Everyone should know that we’re really happy with Andrew,” Cooper remarked. And he’s done a fantastic job adjusting. I believe it will only be a matter of time until we get to see him or allow him to play.
Cooper commented on the challenge Luton will present: “They have players who can change the way they play. It’s a match where everything needs to be at an extremely high standard, as it usually is in the Premier League.
“We must put our own needs first. Now that everyone has returned from their overseas assignments and without their usual preparation, we must make sure we quickly catch up. There can be no justifications for this. In order to make the desired impact, we aim to jump right into the game.
