Teams are unable to stop the Dolphins’ deep passes from Tua to Tyreek even when they are aware of it coming.
Florida’s Miami Gardens (AP) — Tyreek Hill, the receiver, blasted past two defenders as Tua Tagovailoa clutched the ball and dropped back to pass close to the 50-yard line. Tagovailoa threw the ball towards Hill as two defenders were only a few steps behind him and running at full speed. Landing, Miami.
There will almost certainly be a downfield pass from Tagovailoa to Hill every week. Nevertheless, it baffled the Patriots in the opening frame of the Dolphins’ 31-17 victory on Sunday. When Miami plays the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs this week in Frankfurt, Germany, it will need its best players to continue to deliver.
According to Hill, Tua performed an excellent job of selling the fake. Once the corner and safety bit up, the rest is history.
The fact that the play was performed on a drive following Tagovailoa’s interception was just as significant as the play itself.
It was Tagovailoa’s second touchdown pass on the drive that came right after a pick in three games, something he has made a point of improving his response to in-game errors.
Coach Mike McDaniel described Tua as “locked in,” lacking any ebbs and flows. One of the reasons he has been successful this season, or at least that much more successful, is that he was able to make plays after becoming frustrated.
“In a brief amount of time, he has discovered how to be critical of himself without putting himself in a handcuff. After all, if you self-lash for a quarter or a series, you won’t be happy with the outcomes of your play. I’m really pleased with where he’s come from.
Hill recorded his 12th 100-yard receiving performance since signing with the Dolphins prior to the 2022 campaign, and his fifth of the year. This season, he leads the league in receiving yards (1,014), and if he keeps up this rate, he’ll become the first receiver to reach 2,000 yards.
Since joining Miami, Hill has amassed 2,724 yards—the most ever for a player in his first 25 games with a team during the Super Bowl era. For the Giants in 2014–15, Odell Beckham Jr. came in second best with 2,625 yards.
As he gets ready to play the Chiefs for the first time since being traded by Kansas City—which selected him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft—the All-Pro receiver is enjoying one of his best seasons to date.
Hill remarked, “I’m just excited to play against my old brothers.” It’s similar to moving to a new city while in high school—it’s still ball. Ultimately, my role is to go out there and do what I’ve been doing for the entire year, which is to have fun, support this team’s leadership, and open doors for whoever. Sweetheart, I’m still going to be the same old Cheetah.
What Is Effective
Thanks primarily to Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Philips, the Dolphins’ linebacker tandem, their pass rush has improved in recent weeks. With one sack each on Sunday, Miami now has 27 for the season. With five sacks, Chubb leads the team. He was acquired from Denver during the trade deadline last year.
WHY HELP IS NEEDED
Ball safety. Due to Miami’s two mistakes on Sunday, the Patriots scored 10 points and were able to keep New England in the game. On the opening play of the third quarter, Raheem Mostert fumbled at Miami’s 19, and Tagovailoa threw an interception for the third straight game. In five straight games, the Dolphins have turned the ball over.
ACCESS UP
Waddle, Jaylen. The third-year wide receiver is headed towards his third season of 1,000 yards or more. Waddle averaged 17.3 yards per reception on Sunday, setting a season-high 121 yards receiving and scoring a touchdown. For the first time this season, Miami had two receivers with 100 yards in a single game when Hill recorded his 112 yards.
Ramsey Jalen. After missing the first seven games while recovering from meniscus surgery, the former Los Angeles Rams cornerback made his Dolphins debut. He forced a fumble and had an interception.
CASE DOWN
Run is the game. For the second straight week, Miami’s rushing attack, which is ranked first, was largely ineffective. The Dolphins ran for 70 yards on Sunday, or three yards per rush, after rushing for a season-low 45 yards against the Eagles. Mostert completed 13 attempts for 46 yards.
RG NJURIES Robert Hunt hurt his hamstring on Sunday; he is currently day to day. .. CBC Due to a groyne injury, Xavien Howard missed his second straight game. .. B Connor Williams (groyne) missed the previous two games but was able to play in an emergency. LOL This week, Terron Armstead (knee) is able to come off injured reserve. According to McDaniel, he will travel to Germany with the team and may begin practising. After taking a hit in Week 7, Jevon Holland stayed in the concussion protocol on Monday.
Tagovailoa’s record as a starter against head coaches who have won a Super Bowl is KEY NUMBER 12-1. He’s won against Mike Tomlin, Sean McVay, Jon Gruden, John Harbaugh, and six times against Bill Belichick. On December 13, 2020, he lost to Andy Reid of Kansas City.
