In preparation for their Champions League match against Celtic, Atletico Madrid will fly to Glasgow on Tuesday, and it looks as though they will be missing five players altogether.

The good news for Los Colchoneros is that Marca thinks Stefan Savic, who missed their match against Celta Vigo, will play again. The Serbian defender was uncomfortable when he got back from his overseas assignment.

Due to his recent injury, his longtime central defensive partner Jose Maria Gimenez will not be able to play; instead, he will be joining Thomas Lemar, Samuel Lino, Reinildo Mandava, Memphis Depay, and Memphis Depay on the sidelines.

In the Atletico match, Brendan Rodgers wants Celtic to prove they can compete with elite clubs.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers wants his team to show they can take on the best in the world when they host Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

The Hoops are looking for their first points of the Champions League campaign after going down against Feyenoord with nine men and losing to a last-gasp goal against Lazio after being denied the lead for a second time by a marginal offside decision.

Rodgers said: “We are playing one of the top clubs in the world and one of the best teams.

“We want to be able to take on the best teams in the world. We don’t have to be the best in the world but we certainly want to be able to take them on.”

With a commanding performance in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Hearts, Celtic warmed up.

According to Rodgers, “the players will enter it with great confidence.”

There will be a fantastic vibe, and we’ll aim to start with energy and quality before coming up with a plan.

“It’s terrible that the guys didn’t learn anything. Considering that we played Feyenoord with nine men in the last game, which was really disappointing, the performance level in the first two games has been good.

“But a fantastic opportunity to play against a very strong team and try to score our first points.”

Matt O’Riley, the in-form midfielder, will enter the match with optimism after scoring his sixth goal of the year in spectacular fashion at Tynecastle.

“Anything is possible if we play well, take our chances, and believe we can do it,” stated the 22-year-old.

“I think performance is definitely there; to be honest, we’ve seen that in past Champions League games. It just needs to be ruthless in both boxes.”
