Chiedozie Ogbene, the goal scorer for Town, is hoping that his first Premier League goal of the year in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest will continue to repay the Hatters for giving him a chance in the top division.
The 26-year-old had gone close in past games but was now up and running in the top division of English football at the City Ground. He was Rob Edwards’ first summer acquisition, having come from Rotherham United on a free.
Just moments after the match, Adebayo, who had also wasted an opportunity in the 1-0 loss to Spurs prior to the international break, was subjected to some abhorrent internet abuse for the second time in a row.
Speaking ahead of the game, boss Rob Edwards condemned the abuse as both ‘deplorable’ and ‘disgraceful’ as the club have once more reported the latest offence.
A statement by the premier league said: “The Premier League has received a report of online abuse directed toward Luton’s Elijah Adebayo.
“We have offered our full support to the Club and Elijah.
“We will work with all relevant authorities to ensure the individual responsible faces the strongest possible consequences.
“Racism has no place in our game or anywhere in society.
“If you see or hear any abuse, please report it.”

Following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, Luton attacker Elijah Adebayo became the target of further racist comments on the internet.
After serving as a substitute after 72 minutes at the City Ground, the 25-year-old scored his second goal of the year in stoppage time, helping the Hatters rally from a 2-0 deficit to salvage a point.
However, for the second game running, Adebayo then received some disgusting online abuse just moments after the game, as had also happened when he missed a chance in the 1-0 defeat to Spurs before the international break.
