The Labour leader lauded the spirit of the British people despite the “Tory project to kick the hope out of this country” after being approached by a protester who threw glitter at him before he could begin speaking to the party’s conference.Sir Keir declared that “the fire of change still burns in Britain” and that it “lives on in Labour” as he pledged to remake the nation by building 1.5 million homes, along with new cities, upgraded infrastructure, and backing for green businesses

A general election is anticipated for the following year, and Sir Keir warned that the “dangerous” Tories will “scorch the earth just to get at us” despite Labour’s double-digit polling leads.

And in comparison to his forebears, the challenge would be enormous if he were to earn the keys to No. 10.

“If you think our job in 1997 was to rebuild a dilapidated public realm, that in 1964 it was to modernise an economy left behind by the pace of technology, and that in 1945 it was to build a new Britain out of the trauma of collective sacrifice, then it will have to be all three in 2024,” said Winston Churchill in 1945.

Reforming the “restrictive planning system” was at the centre of Sir Keir’s strategy to ensure economic progress.

The system was “a barrier that prevents this country from constructing roads, grid connections, laboratories, trainlines, warehouses, windfarms, and power plants” and “an obstacle to the aspirations of millions.”

The strategy to “get Britain building again” would “fight the blockers who hold a veto over British aspiration”.

The construction of the “next generation of Labour new towns” and the construction of the 1.5 million dwellings that were promised by new development corporations with the authority to bypass regulations.
