Updated news;Romano says Arsenal ‘still monitoring’ Premier League duo, but denies talks to sign Dortmund starlet

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is still’monitoring’ Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The Gunners attempted and failed to sign Luiz on deadline day in the summer transfer window of 2022.

Three bids for the Brazilian midfielder were rejected by Arteta’s side, who went on to sign a new four-year contract a month later.

Luiz has been a standout performer for Aston Villa after moving from Manchester City in 2019 for about £14.5 million.

City paid £10.3 million for the 25-year-old from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama, and while he did not make a single game for them, a season on loan at Girona was enough to secure a small, but quick, profit.

Because of injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, Arsenal attempted to sign Luiz so late in the 2022 summer transfer window.

This year, Arteta has signed Declan Rice, Jorginho, and Kai Havertz, but Romano reports that he is still interested in landing Villa’s star.

Romano writes for CaughtOffside that’many clubs appreciate’ One of them is Luiz and Arsenal.

Arsenal is still interested in signing an English striker, while PSG is planning a last-ditch Mbappe offer.

The Italian journalist goes on to say that Arteta loves to keep’monitoring’ players he likes even if he doesn’t sign them, and Luiz is an example of a player who is still ‘respected’.

The signing of the 25-year-old, who is a crucial player under Unai Emery and is under contract until 2026, ‘will not be simple’.

Pedro Neto of Wolves is another player Arsenal is still interested in.

Neto has had a fantastic start to the season, contributing five assists and scoring one goal in eight Premier League matches.

His outstanding performance won him a recall to the Portugal squad, despite not having featured for his country’s national side since March 2021

According to Romano, Arsenal has been following Neto’s growth ‘for quite some time’ and is in the same boat as Luiz, with Arteta still intrigued.

According to the transfer specialist, there has been a lot of chatter regarding Borussia Dortmund teenager Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who is reportedly a target for Arsenal.

The 19-year-old, dubbed the “new Jadon Sancho,” left Manchester City’s junior system to join Dortmund and has already made 29 first-team appearances, scoring three goals.

The England Under-21 star is under contract until 2028, therefore a deal will be difficult to accomplish.

However, Romano has shot down speculation that Bynoe-Gittens will leave Germany in 2024.

He mentions that the teenager signed a new deal with Dortmund earlier this month, and that the Bundesliga giants see him as an important element of their long-term ambition.

A transfer to Arsenal next year appears improbable.
