A new signing for Newcastle ‘may change everything’ club executives will “go to Brazil” to arrange a deal for an 18-year-old

According to sources in Brazil, Newcastle United of the Premier League has entered the competition to recruit Corinthians teen Wesley Gassova.

In 30 games with Corinthians, the 18-year-old Sao Paulo native has contributed one assist and two goals.

After a few brief appearances off the bench, Gassova took advantage of his opportunity to play against Newell’s Old Boys in the Copa Sudamericana round of 16, scoring the game-winning goal in the second half.

After missing the whole first half of five straight games, that goal was scored on August 1st. Since that time, he has only been absent for two of his team’s 15 games across all competitions.

As a team regular now, Gassova has had opportunities to showcase his skills on the left flank and has even made a few appearances through the middle.

Newcastle seems to have taken notice of his remarkable achievements when he was only 18 years old.

Bolavip Brasil reports that the Magpies are ‘interested’ in bringing the teenager to St James’ Park (via Sport Witness).

The discovery of Newcastle’s interest ‘may change everything’ for Corinthians because Wesley is anticipated to fetch a hefty price.

Although the Geordies are not going to pay the winger’s €100 million release clause, it is underlined that “they can afford” the signing.

Newcastle’s managers ‘will come to Brazil,’ it is said, to arrange a deal with the Brazilian team.

Wesley is reportedly a target for Everton as well.

Should the young man relocate to the northeast, he would join fellow Brazilians Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton in a team that speaks primarily English.

Eddie Howe, the head coach of the Magpies, has prioritised acquiring local talent this year, bringing in players like Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes.

Sandro Tonali, one of the team’s international summer acquisitions, has returned to Newcastle from Italy’s training camp after learning that the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office was looking into him and Aston Villa’s Nicolo Zaniolo for possible illicit betting.

The Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office has been looking into players Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo, who are currently working out with the national team at the Coverciano Federal Training Centre, according to a statement from the Italian Football Federation.

“Despite the nature of the incidents, taking into account that the two players are not in the required condition to face the matches scheduled for the following few days, the federation has decided, also for their protection, to allow them to return to their respective clubs.”
