Ex-Warrington Wolves player Jack Johnson has signed a two-year contract with ambitious League 1 outfit Oldham until 2024.

Oldham will return to Boundary Park permanently the following year. They are now looking for a new head coach. With a match there versus Workington Town at the close of this season, they put a stop to a 14-year exodus.

Johnson, who made 51 games in three years with Thunder, said on the Roughyeds’ club website after signing his deal that it would last through the end of 2025: “There’s a big excitement around the club at the moment, and it seemed like a really good fit for me.

“I put in a lot of energy and effort, and I think my strength is finishing tasks. I’d like to think that now that I’ve played for a while and had some very great coaches, I’m an experienced player.

“The club has a lot of ambition and some terrific people, so my decision was rather simple. Boundary Park is arguably on par with or even better than other Super League facilities, based on my tour of the facility.

“As players, it’s our responsibility to align with those aspirations and put them into actionMammoth concerts sell out quickly: Jack Johnson, Carlos Santana, Willie Nelson right away.”

Jack Johnson: Up until this point

Johnson made his Warrington debut against Hull FC in September 2015 at the age of 16, wearing the legacy number 1121. He made 18 games for the Super League team before leaving on a permanent basis in 2019. He also made 10 appearances for Rochdale Hornets over the course of four different loan spells and made three appearances for Widnes Vikings.

Prior to 2020, he made Widnes his permanent home after a brief stint at Featherstone Rovers. However, he only appeared in seven games when the COVID-19 Pandemic ended the season.

The winger decided to leave and joined Newcastle before the start of the 2021 season. He has stayed there ever since and has played 51 times for the North East club, scoring 30 tries.
