Marvelous Nakamba, a Town midfielder, has urged his teammates to’stick together’ as they fight to stay in the Premier League this season.

Saturday’s 1-0 loss to new leaders Tottenham Hotspur was the club’s sixth defeat in eight top-flight games this season.

Luton Town are remain fourth from bottom in the table, a point ahead of Burnley on goal difference, a point ahead of Bournemouth, and three points ahead of Sheffield United as the international break approaches this weekend.

Nakamba, the only Luton outfield player to have played every minute this season, is sure Town have what it takes to stay in the top flight of English football, saying: “I think we have progressed compared to the first games.”

“Now we’re getting some decent chances, but we’re also disappointed with not doing this and that, a few basic things, every game.”

“I believe we’re on the right track, but we just have to stick together, believe, and I believe it will happen.” We need to

Lockyer: I'd buy a bottle of red for whoever did the deal to sign Aston Villa's Zimbabwean star Nakamba for Luton -Newsday Zimbabwetrain hard as a group and keep believing in one another.

“We grew into the game, but it’s a game of results.

“All we have to do now is take all of the positives and look forward to the next game, push each other, encourage each other, and keep believing as a group, as players.”

“I also believe that the fans are doing their part by supporting the team from the first minute to the last.”

“We’re grateful for that, now it’s more up to us as players to give it that extra push and believe.”

After a first half in which it appeared Spurs were on their way to a comfortable victory, the dismissal of midfielder Yves Bissouma saw Luton more than hold their own after the break, and by full time, they might be upset at not having won themselves.

Elijah Adebayo, Alfie Doughty, and Jacob Brown all squandered excellent chances from close range as Nakamba said, “We’re so disappointed as a team not to come up with something.”

“It is what it is; all we have to do now is keep improving and focusing on the 90 minutes to try to help each other as a team and keep believing that it is possible.”

“They are top of the league now, we had a gameplan as a team, try and keep them like that, so if you can counter, we had a decent chance, and unfortunately it is just part of football.”

“We’re so disappointed to concede a goal from a set piece.”

“But we just have to stick together as a group, keep on encouraging each other and keep on taking the positives going into the next game.”

It’s the second time in the last three home encounters that Luton have seen their visitors reduced to 10 men for the whole second period, and Nakamba was angry that they couldn’t win yet again.

“It happened to us a few weeks ago, against Wolves, it was a similar situation,” he added.

“We tried our hardest to score, but we didn’t, but that’s football.”

“We just have to learn quickly because it’s the Premier League, so we have to improve as a group and as players so that the next time we can focus on 90 minutes, 95 minutes, 100 minutes, and just try to be there for everyone as a team.”

“We need each and every one as a team.”
